What is Simbang Gabi?
Simbang Gabi traces its roots to Mexico, when in 1587 the Pope granted the petition of Fray Diego de Soria, friar of the Convent of San Agustín Acolman, to hold Christmas Mass outdoors because the church could not accommodate the huge number of people attending. The tradition evolved in the Philippines under Spanish rule, with Masses held for nine days in the pre-dawn hours to accommodate the schedules of farmers and fishermen.
Here at St. Joseph we will be celebrating our fourth year of Simbang Gabi this year, with Masses each night at 7:00 pm from December 15-23. Fellowship will follow the Masses.
All are invited to join in this celebration, as we spiritually prepare ourselves to receive the gift of Jesus Christ. Whether you’re a regular attendee or have never been to Simbang Gabi before, please join us.
Preparation for the music for Simbang Gabi will begin soon! Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 4 & 11. Rehearsals will be from 7pm-9pm in the Church. Sign up at the entrance of the church. For more information contact our Music Director, Manolito Jaldon.
Families are invited to make music part of their Christmas Eve tradition. Come participate in the family Christmas Eve Choir with three rehearsals on Sundays December 8, 15, 22 from 1:30pm-2:30pm. Contact Mr. Jaldon to confirm your participation.
Please join members of our very own Knight’s of Columbus Council on Sunday, December 8th, at the Parish Center for our “Breakfast With Santa.” Breakfast will be served following the 8:00 am and 10:00 am Mass Services.
