Rosary procession & Benediction – Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Carmelite House of Prayer, Oakville, CA (located at Oakville Grade between Hwys 12 & 29). All are welcome to join us and pray the Rosary and to participate in Benediction in the chapel. Refreshments and social to follow.
There will be an initial planning meeting for this year’s Advent Novena Masses (Simbang Gabi) on October 13 at 1:30 pm in PCMR#3. Anyone who would like to help plan and carry out the celebration is welcome.
What is Simbang Gabi?
Simbang Gabi traces its roots to Mexico, when in 1587 the Pope granted the petition of Fray Diego de Soria, friar of the Convent of San Agustín Acolman, to hold Christmas Mass outdoors because the church could not accommodate the huge number of people attending. The tradition evolved in the Philippines under Spanish rule, with Masses held for nine days in the pre-dawn hours to accommodate the schedules of farmers and fishermen.
Here at St. Joseph we will be celebrating our fourth year of Simbang Gabi this year, with Masses each night at 7:00 pm from December 15-23. Fellowship will follow the Masses.
All are invited to join in this celebration, as we spiritually prepare ourselves to receive the gift of Jesus Christ. Whether you’re a regular attendee or have never been to Simbang Gabi before, please join us.
If you would like to have a deeper relationship with God and a better understanding of your faith, then join us for Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible. You will not only benefit personally from being a part of this study; you will also help to bring about a profound renewal in our parish as we grow closer to Christ. St. Joseph Church will be offering this Bible Study from Ascension Press, facilitated by Deacon Scott Sexton, every Tuesday starting on September 10, 2019 to October 29, 2019. Adults age eighteen and older are welcomed to participate in this Bible Study. For more info please contact Jerome at the parish office.
If you are an adult who would like to become part of our Catholic faith or come into full communion with the Catholic Church, please join the RCIA program. Beginning in September, this program will help you to better understand the teachings and practices of the Church, in preparation for receiving the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Contact Dennis Tremethick or the parish office for more information.
Is your child seven years old or older and in need of baptism? RCIA Adapted for Children is for you. This program begins in September, and the children will receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil in 2020. For a registration form or for more information, contact the office.
Are you in need of basic formation? Would you like to work towards your basic catechist certification or basic ministry certification? The Office of Family and Faith Formation is offering basic formation courses throughout our diocese. Join us at the Pastoral Center in Sacramento, Sacred Heart Parish in Red Bluff, Holy Spirit Parish in Fairfield, and St. Joseph Parish or St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Auburn. Do not miss out on the opportunity to learn more about your faith! For registration and information visit basicformation.
Check out our music ministry: Saturday 5pm Parish Choir rehearses at 4pm before Mass; Sunday 10am Parish Choir rehearses at 9:15am before Mass (through Labor Day Weekend); Sunday 12pm Youth & Young Adults rehearse at 11:15am before Mass. For more info, email our Music Director.
St. Joseph is currently looking for volunteers to support our liturgical team for weddings and quinceañeras. Members of this ministry assist the priest at the Mass itself and also help to coordinate details with families ahead of the celebrations. Availability on some Saturdays and weekday evenings is needed. We especially need volunteers who can speak Spanish. If you’re interested in being part of these important celebrations or if you would like more details, contact the parish office.
Come pray the Rosary with your parish community. Opportunities to pray the Rosary are available at the following times:  Weekdays before morning Mass (M, Tu, Th, F at 6:20 am) Mondays at 6:00 pm (Flame of Love) Wednesdays at 3:15 pm – Rosary Club Saturdays before morning Mass (7:30 am)
Sundays before Mass at 4:30 pm (in Spanish)
